Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026
This policy explains what the Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies ("Mayanot", "we") collects when you use the Mayanot Pushka application and this website, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. Your privacy is important to us. We do not sell your data.
1. Who is responsible
Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies, 28 David Yellin Street, Jerusalem 9128001, Israel, is the controller of your personal data. You can reach us at support@mayanot.edu.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: name, email address, and the receipt email address you nominate.
- Contact and receipt details: phone number, date of birth, and the physical or mailing address used for your annual tax summary.
- Giving preferences: your goal, giving amounts, currency, tax country, dedications and reminder settings.
Information created by your use of the Service
- Donation records: the amounts you give, when they were charged, the dedication attached, and the receipts issued.
- Device and usage data: app version, device type, language, and analytics on how the app is used, so we can improve it.
- Push notification tokens, if you allow notifications, so we can send reminders and charge confirmations.
Payment information
Card details are entered directly with our payment providers (HYP for Israel, Stripe internationally) on their secure pages. We do not receive or store your full card number. We retain only a provider token and the last four digits and card brand, so you can recognise your saved payment method.
3. Why we use it
- To process your charitable donations and issue receipts and annual tax summaries.
- To operate the app: your pushka, goal, streak, dedications and history.
- To send transactional communications — charge confirmations, receipts, goal and 30-day notices, and reminders you have enabled.
- To provide customer support.
- To maintain the security of the application and its backend, and to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions.
- To comply with charitable, tax and accounting obligations that apply to us.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, for the purposes above:
- Payment processing: HYP (Israel) and Stripe (international).
- Authentication, backend and notifications: Google Firebase and Supabase.
- Email delivery for receipts and transactional messages.
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside Israel, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens, we rely on the provider's contractual safeguards for the protection of transferred data.
6. How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and saved payment token. Donation and receipt records are retained for the period required by charitable and tax law, after which they are deleted.
7. Your rights
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to stop sending you non-essential messages, or to provide a copy of your data. Most of this can be done directly in Settings; for anything else, write to support@mayanot.edu and we will respond within the period required by applicable law. Under Israel's Protection of Privacy Law you have the right to review and correct data held about you.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. A payment method may only be added by an adult. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Cookies and analytics
This website uses only the cookies necessary to serve the page; it does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The application collects usage analytics as described above.
10. Security
All traffic between the app, this site and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Access to donor data is restricted to staff who need it. Optional PIN authentication protects donations made from your device.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Where a change is significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
